Daily Mail reported that a new book has revealed that Barack proposed to another woman twice before he met Michelle, and that he continued seeing this woman during the first year he dated his future wife.
In his book “Rising Star,” David J. Garrow claimed that Barack was so in love with Sheila Miyoshi Jager that he moved in with her in the mid-1980s in Chicago. Jager even described them as “an island unto ourselves.”
Barack allegedly proposed to Jager in 1986, but her parents felt that she was too young, since she was only 23 at the time. Now a professor in the East Asian program at Oberlin College in Ohio, Jager recounted that Barack became “so very ambitious very suddenly.”
“I remember very clearly when this transformation happened, and I remember very specifically that by 1987, about a year into our relationship, he already had his sights on becoming president,” she remembered.
Barack reportedly felt he needed to “fully identify as African American” and that he needed a black wife to fulfill his political ambitions. This was not good news for Jager, who is of Dutch and Japanese ancestry.
The future president proposed to Jager one more time before he left for Harvard Law School, but she once again turned him down because she thought the proposal was “out of a sense of desperation over our eventual parting and not in any real faith in our future.” They split soon after the second rejection.
Michelle can’t be happy that she’s been exposed as Barack’s second choice for a wife.
